Youth, Beauty & Slimness - Part 2: Food, My Faithful Companion - Shachi Rao

Updated: Jul 30, 2025

People often ask me the secret behind my youthful appearance and vitality. Is it genetics?

Discipline? Magic?

The truth is simpler-and deeper.

Youth is not merely the absence of wrinkles. It is a state of energy, curiosity, and emotional vibrancy.

Beauty, too, goes beyond skin. It lies in authenticity, presence, and grace-in the way we carry ourselves, nourish ourselves, and live in harmony with our body and spirit.

One of the quietest and most powerful allies in my journey has been food-not just what I eat, but how I eat.

Mindful, Not Perfect

I've been a mindful eater all my life-not obsessive, not restrictive, just aware. I eat a balanced diet most of

the time, but I don't deny myself an occasional indulgence. If I love something rich or sweet, I'll enjoy

it-but in smaller portions. I eat to satisfy my palate, not to punish or please a trend.

I've never followed fad diets-no "protein-only," "keto," or "juice cleanses." My approach has always been

balanced and sustainable. I believe in real food, eaten with joy.

A Glimpse into My Daily Plate

Mornings start with a cup of ginger and turmeric tea, along with 1 tablespoon of ghee and a small

handful

of nuts, seeds, and berries.

Breakfast is homemade-poha, chilla, idli-light, warm, and satisfying.

Lunch is simple and nourishing:

- Dal, seasonal vegetables

- A big helping of fresh salad (I often invent my own!)

- Millet rotis or black/red/brown rice

- And always, a touch of ghee

Evenings bring a light snack: a fruit, buttermilk, or coconut water, followed by a gentle cup of tea.

Dinner is light and wholesome: protein, vegetables, and a roti-enough to nourish without overwhelming.

But Life Happens-and I Let It

Life isn't always home-cooked. I go out, enjoy parties, dine out, sip a drink or two. I don't deny myself those joys. I simply carry one rule with me: moderation.

Through it all, I stay hydrated-with water, my constant elixir.

And daily, I sip my CCCFA water (a digestive herbal blend):

- 1 tsp coriander seeds

1 tbsp cumin seeds

- 2 cardamoms

- 1 tbsp fennel seeds

- A pinch of ajwain

Boiled and simmered for 7-8 minutes. It supports digestion, de-bloating, and overall wellness.

Guided by Nature: Dinacharya & Ritucharya

I follow the Ayurvedic principles of Dinacharya (daily routine) and Ritucharya (seasonal living). I eat

with the rhythm of nature and listen to the needs of my body as seasons change.

Food as Joy, Not Fear

Food is not an enemy to be tamed. Nor is it just fuel. For me, food is a friend. A daily ritual of self-love, connection, and pleasure. I eat with relish, without guilt.

And so, I offer you this simple mantra I live by:

"Eat smart, eat small, eat soulfully. Be consistent. The reward is not just in your waistline-it's in your energy, glow, and joy."

Because youth isn't in the mirror-it's in your presence.

And beauty is not what others see-it's what you radiate.
