In Ayurveda, food is considered not only as a means of nourishment for the body but also as a form of medicine. We must eat in harmony with the seasons as each season brings change in climate and our energy so we must respect these seasonal changes and enjoy the different seasonal and local bounty that we are so lucky to be blessed with.

Eating seasonal and local food enhances our digestion and metabolism. Consuming fresh local and seasonal food boosts the immunity, providing the right nutrients to deal with seasonal illness and allergies.

All these vegetables and fruits are also very low in calories so they are not fattening provided we do not deepfry or use much oil. Food should be lightly cooked with very little oil or ghee and gentle spices . Eat light lentil curries and dals. Reduce the intake of spicy, salty, sour, and fried foods.

Enjoy the seasonal variations and buy from local reputable organic suppliers like Lucknow Farmers Market. Let us boost our local economy and our health. Signing off till next week as we continue on our journey to good health and vitality............. To be continued
