Viorel and Nishant are founders of Dharatal, an Indo - European design collective with a focus on local communities, their heritage and landscapes. The atelier was established in 2016 and embarked upon a diverse range of work, from design to policy making to speculative research projects.

Viorel Acsinte was born in a small town on the foothills of the Carpathian mountain range of Romania who got trained as an architect in Hasselt University, Belgium, at the University of Architecture and Art. He is the founder of Dharatal Belgium office, a Romanian-Belgian architectural designer, sculptor and painter. His design language is derivative of state of art technology using ray tracing and 3D modelling knowledge combined with a good understanding of parametric design in cultural context. His passion lies in the details and perfection, with an expertise in visual language and a skillful eye for proportions and a sensitive use of material for designs and he is presently heading the Belgian office of Dharatal.

Nishant Upadhyay is a Lucknawi who got trained as a conservation architect at KU Leuven, Belgium, as a recipient of the Erasmus Mundus EXPERT scholarship where he is also a doctoral researcher. He is a TEDx Speaker, Executive Committee member and Central zone representative (MP and UP) of ICOMOS India. Born, brought up and graduated in Lucknow, Nishant moved back to the city in July 2019 after six year of study and work in Belgium and then working in UNESCO as program officer for Culture for the World Heritage program.

​He is presently an International Heritage Expert to UNESCO New Delhi, Jakarta & Dhaka office and heads the Indian office of Dharatal .
