The historical heritage of Malihabad.
Any study of the Hindi heartland is incomplete without understanding the Avadh countryside. This erstwhile medieval era military settlement is today the highest mango producing region of the country, and preserves vital clues to a rich historical heritage.
Morning: Start from Lucknow in self driven car to Malihabad. (1 hour)
Halt 1 (suggested): Tikait Rai Bridge (Kakori):
The throwback to the era of the Nawabs and to the beginnings of the city of Lucknow. This Bridge on the ’Behta” river marks the western limits of the city. In a way, both our historical narrative and the history of Lucknow begin at this location.
Semi fortified pre-Nawabi settlements made of Lakhori bricks. We visit some of the oldest houses of the local Pathans and look at the terrain and architecture to understand how the Kasbah of Avadh were settled.
Halt 3: Malihabad ruins (Tombs and Baolis).– Earliest settlements – Stone built heritage.
Explore the remnants of material culture from the earliest Islamic settlements. From before the time of the Nawabs and even before the first of the Mughals came to India.
Followed by Mango Brunch at Madhav Udhyan at Mall 10-11am an Idyllic Orchard.
